Open
Day bei Lasahr Arabians
April
15th 2006

Rain
and wind were trying in vain to compete with the magnificent Arabians who
were celebrating the 9th Open Day at Lasahr Arabians on Holy Saturday. The
crowd of spectators, some of whom had come a long way, clearly enjoyed the
show below their colorful umbrellas.
You
had to admire not only the high quality of horses shown, but also the
professionalism of riders and handlers: they kept their cool while
costumes were drenched by rain, stallions went a little crazy because of
the wind and a power loss silenced music and microphone. The show went on
with quadrille riding, belly dancing, show jumping and much more. Also the
culinary needs of the public were fulfilled in exemplary fashion.
There
has been a change of generations at Lasahr Arabians. While the grand old
dames of the breeding programme were present as honored guests, they left
it to their daughters and granddaughters to show off themselves and their
foals. There were also some mares and progeny present from the stud farms
MZ-Vollblutaraber and Naphis Arabians, whose breeding stock is largely
based on Lasahr horses.
The
chief sire of Lasahr Arabians, Shaklan Ibn Bengali (FS Bengali x LM
Sadunga), was shown on the double lunge and said thank you to his fans
with a very pretty curtsy bow. Like always, his progeny did him proud,
from the tiny picture-book foal to the promising young stallion. Only one
more season at the stud farm lies before his stable mate from England, the
current European Reserve Champion Ali Khan** (Al Hakkim x Sharene). This
spring his first Swiss foals were born, one of them, the two day old L.A.
Titania (out of Tesma), was shown this day, much to the delight of the
public. She is the living proof of what this great sire is capable of.
Like
in other years, some very interesting guest stallions were shown. This
year they were all greys. The Davidoff-sons SC Dagash (out of Verbala) and
SC Dalmas (out of Faseta) both pleased in their own way by their movement,
type and athlethic build. The equally powerful but not less beautiful L.A.
Tamerlan (Narym x Tesma) was shown under the saddle as well as at liberty.
As a last highlight the charismatic straight Egyptian stallion Simeon
Sharav (Asfour x Simeon Shuala) showed his circus worthy rearing and
trotted playfully along with his handler.
Even
though as far as the music selection went the song „Brown girl in the
rain“ would have seemed more appropriate than „I am walking on
sunshine“ – once again Lasahr Arabians has succeeded in giving a
demanding audience a great show!
